In the 1840s, a great historian named Henry Howe visited each county in Ohio meeting many people and taking extensive notes. He published his History of Ohio shortly afterwards. Then later, in the 1880s, he revisited each county and updated all of his previous notes and made many, many drawings. He then almost totally re-wrote the entire book and republished it in 1886 in a two-volume set containing nearly 1000 pages. He has general history chapters and then he has a separate chapter devoted to each of the 88 counties in Ohio.
The Ottawa County Historical Museum has reprints of each of the county chapters as well as several other publications and used books. Please email the Museum or Curator for more information.
Thank you and happy hunting to all!
