I'm descended from Caroline Faber Miller's sister Wilhelmina (Minnie) Faber Pickens. I've recently refocused on the Fabers and have found some tidbits.
If you ever saw the tree (or have a copy) drawn up by Henry B. Faber (Caroline and Minnie's brother), you know that their parents were Henry Faber and Sophia Maria Oertel, but you also have a skipped generation. Henry Faber (b. ca 1816 in "France") was Henry Jr.; his parents were Henry and Christina Faber (living with Henry Jr. and Sophia in a couple of census records). It is Henry Sr. whose parents were Philipp Faber and Mary E. Schwob.
Here are my discoveries:
Gottlieb and Hannah Christina Oertel came over from Demeusel, Saxony with their daughters Christina, (Jo)hannah, Sophia, Erdmuda and Fridericka, and their son Christian on the Ship Marianne, which landed in Baltimore on 20 Jul 1842. (Actually, their names were Sophia Christina, Sophia Johannah, Sophia Maria, etc., according to various sources. The German naming convention is usually to treat the first name the way we treat middle names, so only Sophia Maria was actually called Sophia.) Christina married Gottlieb Hillig; Hannah married Henry Michael Neuhard (in the census as Michael Neuhard, not to be confused with the Michael Neuhard who was Johann/John Michael Neuhard married to Catherina Schaub); Sophia married Henry Faber; I haven't found the younger girls' marriages yet. The LDS have apparently not yet filmed the church records for much of Saxony, possibly because it was behind the Iron Curtain for so long.
Henry Faber Jr. had a sister named Caroline Faber; she married a man named Johann Adam Schwob in the town of Schalbach, France (in the Alsace-Lorraine area). I got the civil records for Schalbach and found their marriage record, which listed Caroline Faber Schwob's parents as Henry Faber and Christine Jaquillard, from the town of Asweiler, Bas-Rhin, France. (On current maps, it is Asweiler, Saarland, Germany.) I have not found their passenger lists yet, but hope to do so. John A. Schwob, son of Johann Adam Schwob and Caroline Faber Schwob was born 26 Feb 1831 in Schalbach, and came over with his mother and Faber grandparents while he was an infant, so that gives us an approximate date.
I have requested the loan of the films of the civil and church records for Asweiler, and hope to follow up some more on the Faber/Jaquillard/Schwob connection. If I find anything good, I'll try to post it.
