A History of Lorain County published in 1879, has some info on Elah Park and his family. Elah was the father of Theresa M. Park, who married James S. Brown. Elah was a prominent early settler of Avon (fall of 1815), and was active in politics. He was a justice of the peace for many years, and was recorder of Lorain County from 1841 to 1843, and State Representative from 1846 to 1848.
The history contains a paragraph relating to the family, and lists who each of Theresa's brothers and sisters married. It also mentions that James S. Brown was supertendent of the Institution for Mutes, in Indianapolis, Indiana. It indicates that he also held the same position in Baton Rouge, until he was forced North by the Civil War.
Interestingly, two of Theresa's siblings are listed as mutes in the history. Her brother Plumb M. Parker, and a sister Alice H. Parker. Perhaps that is how James S. Brown came to know, and eventually marry into, the family.
