Thanks for the leads. Susannah could be from another Woods family but the fact she appointed Ephriam as guardian of her adoptive son shows she was very close to him. In 1870,Trimble Twp. Athens I believe she was living with Elizabeth Woods 82, possibly her mother in the same area of the James A Smith farm possibly the James Smith farmhouse. John along with his guardian Ephriam Wood was in the process of selling the land (70 acres). In 1880 Susannah Smith purchased 17 and 5 acres of land in Hocking County and John W Smith bought it back in 1889 about 7 years before she died. John also bought lots of land in Hocking county which stayed in the family until the 1970's.
James was the son of Samuel Smith of Athens County...J
