According to subsequent United States census information, my Sarah Dugan was born between 1830 and 1832 in Ireland.
I find her married in 1850 in the U.S.A. in the state of Ohio, in Perry County to William Boal or Boals and misspelled in the marriage index as Bowles (himself a
grandson of Irish immigrant Archibald Boal). The family would subsequently move among Perry, Hocking and Athens Counties in Ohio.
Unfortunately, she died before 1870, when my great grandfather -her youngest son-was small, and before death certificates were kept in Ohio. By the time my great
grandfather died in 1950, he and his children had had no idea about the parentage of Sarah Dugan.
I don't know when she migrated to the United States, only that she was there by 1850, marrying my second great grandfather. I haven't been able to find census
records of anyone surnamed Dugan near the newlyweds in that 1850 census, or even near the in-law Boal family. I don't know if she came over as a child, with or
without parents, I don't know if she came over with a remarried mother, I don't know if she came over during the potato famine, by her self.
Looking at a series of five books that list passenger lists of ships from Ireland to New York City during the potato famine, I did find a Sarah Dugan on a ship sailing
from Belfast, the Nelson-Village in May 1848 that lists her as 18 years of age, which would match up with subsequent age listings in U.S.A. census info recorded in
1850 and 1860. This interests me because, another lady named Dugan married William Boal's brother and she had been born in New York City around 1830. This lady
could be a cousin to Sarah?(I've been able to verify that she isn't Sarah's sister).
Are there books that list passengers of ships leaving Ireland with ages and dates of departure?
How can I find records of births in Ireland between 1830 and 1832, to search for Sarah Dugan?
