Marvin BARR responded to my posting on a message board at Ancestry.com that a gravestone in Patterson Cemetery at Deersville, Franklin Township, Harrison County, Ohio for Corp. John A. BARR (51st O.V.I.) might be for John BARR (1826 - 1908) 47th O.V.I. & 170th O.V.I. IF the military provided the WRONG headstone ! I now believe such a mixup occurred. The Family Search (LDS) website recently added (or indexed) "Applications for Headstones for Military Veterans" to their files. Searching on John A. Barr yields a record and an image of the original application from 1933 regarding the grave at Patterson Cemetery, Deersville. At the bottom is typed: "This headstone appears to have been furnished on the wrong service. see file. Should probably be John Barr 47 and 170 Ohio Inf." (The REAL Corp. John A. Barr - 51at O.V.I. - seems to be buried in Allen County, Ohio.) This ties up a loose end for me, but doesn't end my search. I was seeking John BARR's grave on the chance that his daughter, Mahala Barr CRUMRINE might have buried her husband, Finley CRUMRINE (1859 - 1898), nearby in her (BARR) family plot. But there is no such headstone.
