I have recently been looking to find my ggggrandmother's maiden name. I believe it may have been Moffitt, but have been unable to find any exact information that agrees with my conclusion.

Margaret (born around 1825 in Ohio) married Samuel Cummins (or Cummings)(born around 1825 in Ohio and died in Idaho before 1880)

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Samuel, Margaret, and their three children are living Blanchard, Hancock, Ohio. Their neighbors are William and Mary Moffitt. There are also many other Moffitts in the neighborhood.

Apparently, Margaret and Samuel lived in Lower Canada in the mid 1840's, but were back in Ohio by 1848, for their son John's birth.

Margaret and Samuel then migrate with many of their Moffitt neighbors to Guthrie County, Iowa by 1856. However, by 1864 they are in Oregon for the birth of their daughter Mary Ellen.

Margaret also lists her maiden name as beginning with an M in the 1856 Iowa Census.

Also, two of her daughters, Josephine and Viola, share common names with Moffitt neighbors.

I'm really not sure if Moffitt is indeed her maiden name, and if it is, I cannot find any parents. No one seems to have any record of a Margaret Moffitt.

If anyone has any more information or advice, it would be great to hear from you.

Thanks
