I'm researching the following head of households that was numerated in the 1820 Census in Liberty Township Delaware County, Ohio:
These men were very early settlers of Washington County, Ohio. Joel Dodge was in Washington County, Ohio in 1816. He married Sylvina Greene. Sylvina was the dau. of Willard Greene and Elizabeth Cole of Washington Co., Ohio.
Sylvina was also the niece of Ichabod Cole (above). There was a John Cole who married Nancy Harden in Washington. Co. on June 23, 1807. This John Cole was the brother of Ichabod Cole.
Possibly a "squatter" in the very early years of Warren Twp.,
Washington County, Ohio.
This, I believe is the "Jr." to the one above. He married Caroline Cole in 1846,, daughter of Ichabod Cole.
Here's where I need assistance.....
Willard Greene and Elizabeth Cole had another daughter by the name of Harriet Greene. She married Samuel Harden on October 28, 1824 in Washington County, Ohio. By 1839 they were living in LaSalle County, Illinois. They are listed in the 1850 census living in Grand Rapids, La Salle Co., Illinois with 3 sons, Samuel, Jr., Wallace and Oliver. Samuel and Harriet was both 49 years old. Harriet born in Ohio, and it looks like Samuel is listed as to being born in Vt. (I'm not 100% sure on that, because of the handwriting of the census taker). Samuel Harden, Sr died in 1853 in LaSalle Co...In later years, Samuel Harden, Jr. removed his family to Hammond, Indiana.
I'm wondering if the SAMUEL HARDEN listed above is any relation to the ones in Delaware Co., Ohio.??? With all of them being inter related by marriage in one way or another, I am thinking that he could be the brother or a son to any of the ones listed above.
I have a 1839 letter that Samuel and Harriet wrote to Joel and Sylvina Dodge. Harriet mentions the names of:
1. Amos and Asa (Not sure who these men are. No last name mentioned Possibly have the last name of Cole.)
2. Ruth Patten (mentions that she is dead).
3. Sally and George Friend
4. John Harden
Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone??
See the letter here:
Does anyone have the list of burials for the surnames of COLE, HARDEN, HARDIN, DODGE, and/or GREEN(E) families from the Cole / Hardin Cemetery in Liberty Township???
Hope someone can help :o)
