Steve,

Thanks for looking in Shelby County. One census has him living in that county in Ohio. He may also be buried in either Darke or Preble county. I know the family lived in Darke County. Am looking for his wife, Freelove Wiggins Manes. She may have died before he did and he remarried a woman named Mariah or Mahala. That is from Census. I have a Levina Manes living with one of the Silas Manes children in Randolph County, but her name is given as Lovina or Levina. This could have been Freelove's middle name but I am not sure.

I have run up against a real brick wall with this family and can't find dates of death and birth dates for Silas born in Tennessee in 1811 or 1816 and his wife Freelove born in Kentucky 1811 or 1816 are not absolutely sure because one census from 1850 and one from 1860 for Randolph County are not the same. It is the same family but I don't know why the dates of birth calculated would be five years off.

If you can think of anywhere else I might look for this family I would appreciate it. One son George died in the Civil War. There were nine children in the family, born in both Ohio and Indiana.
