HMMMMM, Well, I knew the Quakers were strict. No wonder they all changed to another religion. Elizabeth Applegate, (one of my g grandmothers)seems to have been one of the unfortunate persons who suffered from the tyranny of that age, when she was censured to stand with her tongue in a cleft stick for swearing, reviling and railing. You read what happened to Asa's children for marrying outside the religion, even attending a Ball. I was raised in a Baptist church and I thought they were strict. Another ancestor got in trouble for attending her Junior, Senior PROM back in the fifties.Yes my Minnonite ancestors were of German origin. I really knew nothing about that religion. We have a lot of Methodists in our Tree. The thing is, America was built on Religious Principles and now they are trying to change that! Go figure. Thanks for the lesson on Quakers. Nancy |
