Spencer W. COLE born Jul 1837 in OH was the son of Willard COLE and Lucy HURD. Willard COLE born abt 1793 < in Windsor, Berkshire, Mass.> was a brother of my gr-gr- grandfather, Gilbert COLE (1813-1873). The COLE siblings (Willard & Gilbert COLE and sister Mrs Roland (Melinda Cole) TREAT) moved to Colebrook, Ohio about 1830 with their widowed mother Mary "Polly" COLE after the death of their father, Jonathan COLE Dec 1928 in Gorham, Ontario co, NY. " Biographical Sketches of Connneaut Soldiers" from the Conneaut News Herald 18 Nov 1912 pg 4: "Spencer W. Cole-Aged 24, single. Enlisted Aug 5th,1861, in 2nd O.Batt. Was in all the battles in which the battery took part until he mustered out Aug. 5th, 1864." -end- - 8 Jan 1858 Spencer W. COLE of Colebrook sold to John Betts, 100 acres of land in Colebrook township that he inherited from his father, "the late Willard Cole dec'd." Two years later in 1860 Spencer COLE age 22 was working at the saw mill and living in Jefferson Village, Ashtabula co, OH with a WILLOW or WILSON family. In 1870 and 1880 Spencer COLE was living in Corry, Erie co, PA. Spencer W. COLE married abt Aug 1870 Mary A BULLOCK (daughter of Amos J. BULLOCK and Adelia HENRY). They had a son Elbert Amos COLE born 26 Jul 1876 in PA and a daughter Bertha Lenora COLE born abt May 1822 in PA. They had a son, Lenord Spencer COLE born 2 Aug 1912 in Canada who died 15 Nov 1985 <of Los Gatos>, Santa Clara co, CA who married abt 1937 Elisabeth Sophia JOHNSON and they had a daughter, Betty Clare COLE born 8 Nov 1939 in Dallas county, TX. Obituary : Dallas Morning News 11 Mar 1975 secD pg 6: "COLE: Mrs Augusta, 251f Wedgelea. Survived by son, Lenord Cole, Houston; sister, Mrs. G A Ebert, Kalamazoo, Mich.; one grandaughter; four nieces. Services 1 p.m., Tuesday, Lamar & Smith Chapel, Rev. Paul W. Widicus officiating.
