I see from the 1910 census that he was a plumber, the following looks like him in the 1888 directory and then the 1889 death of his first wife.

Manhattan City directory 1888
McNevin William C., plumber, 888 Sixth av., h. 525 W. 49th

New York Herald
Thursday, Dec 5, 1889, front page
McNevin - At her residence, 101 West 48th st., Margaret McNevin, the beloved wife of William C. McNevin and daughter of Margaret Devine. Funeral on Friday, at ten A.M., from her late residence; thence to the Church of the Sacred Heart, where a mass of requiem will be celebrated. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.

NYC death index
McNevin Margaret 37 y, died: Dec 4 1889, cert # 36890, Manhattan

Is this his death? The age is about right.
McNevins William, 55 y, died: Sep 3 1913, cert # 26168, Manhattan

By the way, there is a Wm C. McNevin, plumber, in the Manhattan City directories from 1878 to 1909, he's not in there after 1909 but he may possibly be in there even earlier than 1878 because I stopped looking at that point.
