I am looking for information on Lucian B. Lathrop who came to the Town of Pike, Allegany County, N.Y. in 1822 with his wife Pamelia, which I understand is now part of Wyoming County. (Did he own property?) He served as deputy sheriff in Allegany County in the 1820's and early 1830's for 12 years and was engaged in hotel keeping there also. In 1824 he was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Rising Sun Lodge in the town of Pike, Allegany County, N.Y. Does anybody know anything about him? Also I am looking for any residents who might have helped fugitive slaves escape to Canada, other than Calvin Fairbank, who I am already aware of. Was Wyoming County, N.Y. an anti-slavery community? Does anybody know of any anti-slavery committees formed in this county in the 1820's 1830's. Any records? Gayleen Gindy |
