Hi, Spencer, we might be related. My ancestor was named Welcome Hill and he was born in 1795 in Rhode Island. He grew up in Macedon (formerly Palmyra). There was another Welcome Hill in the area, younger than my ancestor. I don't know if or how they are related. Welcome's mother was alive at least until 1829, but died before 1837. I have two letters written by Welcome Hill to his sister, Sally Hill Davis, in those two years. In the first, he mentions that "mother is away visiting...". In the second, he says that his father is remarrying a woman named Sally Myers. So, clearly, Welcome Hill's father is not Elijah, as my mother was convinced it was for many years. Welcome's father was in the area very early, however, and I have seen other possible candidates in the early censuses. What interests me most is that Welcome and Sally appear to have had a sister named Anna who married a Henry S. Allen. With two Hill-Allen connections in a town the size of Macedon, it does raise questions in my mind, though both names are common enough that it might be coincidence. Families in those days often formed close and multiple ties. Anyway, I've been curious what you know about Hills and Allens in Wayne County.
