My Henry Rooke is also from Yorkshire England. I have not proven this but am suspecting that this 1841 census from Nelson St. Barnsley has Henry's family as Follows..The following information from the Sheffield indexers Forum..a gal there was kind enough to find this information for me..
John Rooke aged 45
Ann Jessop Rooke age 45
Mary aged 15
George age 13
John age 9
Henry age 7
All born in Yorkshire, Also in the home in AnnRooke aged 85 most likely Johns mother.
When you read the 1851 census,, the family has changed and you find.
John Rooke now 59
Nany M 58,,, we assume Mary died and John remarried.
Then son George is 22 and now is married to
Caroline, sons wife, 22
John age 20
Henry is 17
Elizabeth Crossley G/dau age 9
Mary Ann Crossley G/DAu age 7,, both G/Dau's born Barnsley.
If this is my Henry he next shows up in Clinton Co, Ny,, marries and raises a family.
I have been unable to find where Henry and his wife are buried.. I can find many of the family of his wife.. Pringle, Pettigrews, Waite, all from Scotland...
I just thought perhaps this family of yours had a tie to mine.. but until I establis positively that my Henry belongs to this family,, I can only guess????
But,, sure is fun connecting with another Rooke from Upstate, NYS,, I grew up in Saratoga Co,,, but am now in MN.
Thanks for your information.. I did find a group of Rooke's in Rhode Island in some informamtion I was looking at on the net the other day.. ROOK was the spelling,, but have found some of my Rooke's with that spelling.. so wonder if they are a group that was in Canada and came down into the states.. I don't remember ever hearing my Rooke's spent time there,, I have French/Canadian ties from, my moms ancestry..
