My Welch ancestors lived in Clyde in 1904, the name is often mis-recorded as Walsh. There were also probably Walsh families there.
Clyde had a large percentage of Irish residents for much of the 19th century. Many probably settled there after helping build the Erie Canal (1817-1825). Others probably settled there later to be near their countrymen. My three Irish 2g-grandfathers who settled in Clyde (1850s) all came from the east coast of Ireland (Co. Wexford & Co. Wicklow).
By 1900 may of the Irish surnames in Clyde had been replaced by Italian ones.
