The New York State Archives has many of the construction records. I don't believe they do research so you would either have to do it yourself or hire someone. A list of their Erie Canal records is at the following URL: http://www.archives.nysed.gov/holding/aids/canal/descrip/list.htm I assume that you mean the Town of Macedon, there's no Macedon County. The Wayne County Historian's office in Lyons might have some info, they will do research for an hourly fee.
