See information on David BROWN, b. ca. 1811 Neversink, Sullivan Co. NY. He was the son of James BROWN and Elizabeth (Betsey) GILLET. David BROWN and his older brother James R. BROWN bought and sold in Hamden, Delaware Co. NY. In March 1835 David BROWN was in Lockport NY on the Erie Canal and wrote to a friend in Woodbourne, Sullivan Co. NY. He wrote of the opportunities to be found in Illinois. By the next year, 1836 James R. BROWN had settled in Homer, Calhoun Co. MI. However, there is no record of David BROWN. James R. BROWN lived in Calhoun Co. MI until 1842 when he returned to Fallsburgh, Sullivan Co. NY. I would like to know what became of David BROWN. Did he settle elsewhere in Michigan or did he continue on to Illinois? There is a clue that he may have gone on to Illinois. Mary BROWN, youngest sister of David and James R., and her husband Horace BURR were in Kane Co. IL by 1860. I will be happy to share information.
