William Ayers married Martha Nichols in 1798 in Smithtown, Suffolk County, NY. "William Aries" shows on the 1800 Census of Brookhaven Township, Suffolk County, LI, NY. The number of people living with William at the time shows he might have been a widower at the time of his marriage to Martha. Martha Nichols Ayres signed Quit Claim Deeds indicating that she was a resident of Starkey, Yates County, NY and a widower in 1831. In 1855 Martha Ayres is on the Schuyler County Census living with the Perry family. Martha Ayres is listed in Athay Baptist Cem. buried 1856 giving her age as 76, this must be wrong since her father died in 1799. Is there a obituary for William or Martha?
