Alan -- Thanks for the note. This line is a new find for me, so at this time, I donít have documentation that shows a connection. The similar names are curious. My connection is through Charles S. Johnson, whose mother, I believe, is one of the Smith offspring (to this point, Iím not sure which one)born to Moses SMITH and Chloe DICKINSON. I can relate to the fruitlessness of your William M. Smith rabbit trails.
My link is documented through the census data for Orleans County, NY, on Rootsweb.com. Check out the link here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyorlean/ba1855s.htm.
Keep in touch if you dig up anything, and I will do the same.
Incidentally, I saw your BARKER postings. I have a John BARKER (abt 1791-abt 1855) married to Louisa JONES (abt 1800-abt 1852), with (at least) one daughter, Sophronia Barker (7 April 1827 in Schroon, NY). These Barkers are buried in Brick Church Cemetary, Crown Point, NY. Any connections here?
