I here post recent discoveries of the Christman family, sons of John Christman, Sr. (c1740-after 1800) of the town of Manheim, Montgomery Co., NY. This is made in an attempt to correct erroneous research posted on the Internet.

The following sons of John Christman and Anna Catharina Dockstader, moved from Montgomery County, NY to the town of Sullivan, Madison Co., NY about 1801:

I. John, born about 1775, married Margaret ---; they moved to the town of Sandy Creek, Oswego Co., NY in 1835, after a previous residence in the town of Sullivan, NY from about 1801.

II. Peter Christman, born 1780, married Eveline Daharsh (1781-c1848), da. of Philip Daharsh, Rev. War veteran. They resided in the town of Sulllivan, NY, and in 1820 were in Constantia, NY. The widow Eveline was found in the 1830 and 1840 Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY census. Peter and Eveline had at least 4 children:

i. Peter Christman, Jr., was born 23 June 1800 in Manheim, NY and died 19 Mar. 1848, age 47, in Manlius, NY [g.s.]. He married Katherine Chase; she was born 16 Feb. 1802 and died 15 Apr. 1846, age 44, in Manlius, NY [g.s.]. They are buried in Chase Family Cemetery, Manlius [Findagrave.com].

ii. Sally Christman, was born about 1802 in Sullivan, NY. She married Henry Chawgo [Stephen Whitney, The Whitney family of Connecticut (1878), 1:478]. They were living in Manlius, NY in 1840, next door to Sally's mother [census]. In 1857, they were residing in Sandy Creek, NY [Whitney fam.].

iii. Henry Christman, was born about 1808 in Sullivan, NY and was living in Manlius, NY, next to his mother, Eveline, in 1840 [census]. The name of his wife is not known.

iv. Eveline Christman, born about 1814 in Sullivan, NY, died 1870-1874 in Brewerton, Oswego Co., NY. Married (1) in Sullivan, NY in 1833, Lyman Smith, who d. 1846-1850 in Brewerton; (2) Benjamin Whitney, b. 1811 in Cicero, Onondaga Co., NY, d. 1 June 1888, Onondaga County Poorhouse.

Eveline above is my direct ancestor, via her 1st husband. I have a considerable amount of research on these families that I will be happy to share.
