I am interested in any information about Jacob Tuckerman, Sr. who came to Eaton around 1808. Who was his first wife and when did she die?
He married 2nd, in 1821, Mary J. Fisk. I found an old newspaper announcement of their marriage, calling him Captain Tuckerman, and from that, have deduced that he must have left Eaton by then, as it says he was "of this town" [meaning Bennington, VT, where the paper was published]. They were married in Stillwater, Saratoga, NY., according to the news article.
He had three children by his first wife, Jacob Jr., Abraham, and Elmina, who married John H Brown. They all apparently stayed in Eaton. Jacob, Sr. and Mary Tuckerman ended up in Clinton County, NY, where they both died.
One of the histories says that his wife was Elizabeth, and one of my email correspondents said it was Betsey and that she died in 1839, which does not compute with his having married Mary Fisk in 1821. Either Betsey's death date was given wrong, or maybe they were divorced? I'd like to clear up that mystery. If she died, where is she buried and what was her maiden name?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.
