My fourth great-grandmother -- Sarah Brown, Quaker family, from Pennsylvania, parents George Brown and Elizabeth Field. Sarah listed as one of surviving and inheriting children in George's 1784 will. Her sister Susanna Brown married Thomas Yardley. Sarah Brown named one of her own sons Thomas Yardley Brown.

I have family lore that Sarah's husband was a "cousin" Henry Brown. This family did marry first cousins as a matter of course, so could be, but while I can track Sarah down from descent of George and Mercy Browne, I have nothing after that save some vague family history. Who was her husband? Who were HIS parents? siblings? His date of birth? When and where did Sarah and Henry Brown marry?

They DID move to Brownville (Jefferson County) New York with the branch of the Brown family that went off with General Jacob Jennings Brown when he founded Brownville in Jefferson County NY (founded 1799 but I don't know when Sarah moved there). Sarah's children apparently were, however, born in Brownville. One son, Thomas Yardley Brown, emigrated to Illinois in about 1850 with another renegade bunch of Quaker Browns. Possibly Sarah and spouse had another son, George Brown.

The only information "out there" on line on this section of the Brown family has Sarah married to her nephew, 20 years her junior and having her children after the age of 50. I am somewhat skeptical of that information, of course. I suppose it is not impossible, but it does seem highly improbable.

I am hopeful that someone will recognize this family and have some information or clues to help me?

Thank you!!
