Joel Calkins (b. Sharon CT 1760) was a pioneer settler in Lorraine, Jefferson Co. Also among Lorraine pioneers were three brothers -- John, Jesse, and Nathaniel Clark, who all went to Lorraine from Fulton or Montgomery Co. NY about 1805. John Clark's wife was Eleff Calkins who was born 13 May 1775 (in CT or NY?) and died 3 March 1862 in Lorraine. In Jeff Co., the Clark farm was southwest of the present hamlet of Lorraine. There were many Calkins farms all over the town of Lorraine. Does anyone know the relationship between Eleff Calkins (Mrs. John) Clark and the other Calkins' of Lorraine, or any other locale in Jeff County for that matter.
