I am trying to find the parents of Joseph Palmer. I descend from his son Orsamus Palmer.
JOSEPH PALMER was FEBRUARY 17, born 1785. Joseph married SALLY PEASE who was born 1785. They were both born in NY. Unknown where they marry or what year. (Orra H. Palmer, a son of Joseph, wrote that his father and grandfather served in the War of 1812.)
Their first child is Caroline-
daughter Caroline E. born in NY. Joseph and Sally would have been about 20 years old. Caroline married Jesse Ingerson of Jefferson Co, NY about 1826. They moved to Wyandot County Ohio sometime in the mid 1830 timeperiod.
daughter Mary A. born - no record of her life
Joseph is in Leeds, Yonge, Ontario.
son Orsamus A. was born in Canada. Orsamus married Elizabeth Stockwell( daughter of Rueben ), about 1843, in NY?. They lived in Williams County Ohio, and Stueben County, IN. in 1850's and 1860's.
daughter Tirza born- no record of her life
March daughter Tirza A. born in NY, Jefferson County. Tirza A. married Alvin Ingerson, brother of Jesse Ingerson above. They were married about
daughter Nancy M. born. Nancy married John Miller. They are in NY, so we can assume that is where they married. No record of her .
From my research, I find three Palmer family groups in LeRay Jefferson Co in the rough time frame of 1820- 1840 and beyond for some - The family line of ELIAS PALMER (b 1751) and his wife Rebecca. The family of REUBEN PALMER(b 1757) and his son CALEB (b 1779, wife Patience ) and MY Palmer ancestor JOSEPH PALMER (b 1785 wife ,SALLY PEASE.) The sons of ELIAS lived next to my JOSEPH PALMER. REUBEN and his son CALEB were also in the neighborhood. I would really like to hear from anyone researching the lines of RUEBEN AND CALEB PALMER to make sure I have everyone sorted out right. Perhaps by pooling information, we could all move forward in our research. Some of these Palmers were Quakers
son Oris born. Probably died young, no records. At age 16 or 17 Caroline converted to the M. E. Church and was kicked out of the house because of her conversion. She returned home to care for a sick mother. He could be the reason Caroline returned home.
In December Joseph buys land in Jefferson County.
son Orra H. born in NY. Orra married Sarah Hudson in Jefferson County, NY. They lived in Williams County Ohio in 1840
NY state census Joseph is in LeRay
daughter Rachel Elizabeth born in NY. Rachel married Joseph Ebi/Ely/Eby abt 1846. Second husband was Amos Beebe married about 1860.
son Sidney born in NY. Sidney did not marry, he died in the Civil War.
daughter Lydia P. born in NY. Lydia married in 1853 in Williams County, Ohio to John Henry Stockwell, brother of Elizabeth Stockwell above.
NY state census no Joseph Palmer
estimate date of birth for first Ingerson child born in Wyandot County Ohio to Tirza Ann Palmer (Mrs. Alvin) Ingerson
Oct. Joseph buys land in Williams County, Ohio
-Joseph is in Williams County Ohio. Also in the same township is Cyrenus Palmer who is from the line of the above Elias and Rebecca Palmer. These two Palmer families did not intermarry. The Elias and Rebecca line is researched and there is no Joseph. He could not be a son of Elias and Rebecca because they had a child born the same year as Joseph, one month earlier.
