WALTER SLUYTER: Who is he in New York? Who were his ancestors and siblings? He went to Michigan as shown below. His brother was Isaiah Sluyter who was a Justice of the Peace in Tioga Co. in 1799. At the bottom of this message are the names found doodled at the back of Isaiah's Justice of the Peace docket book. Most are Walter's children found in Michigan who were born in PA. and in Michigan. Some may have been born in N.Y. Who are the parents of these 2 brothers? I think they had German ancestry. Thank you, -Glenda McKercher

Another pioneer of this vicinity was Walter Sluyter from Broom County, N.Y., who in 1839 "took up" 131 acres of farm land along the northwest shore. It was here that his son, Isaac, erected a fine home which still stands at 12041 Torrey Road. The former church on the corner, now the educational building, contains a window inscribed to Walter and Nancy Sluyter who were among its founders…. NOTE: Broome Co., N.Y. was taken from Tioga Co. on 28 MAR 1806.
1810 Broome Co., N.Y. Federal Census lists’ Walter Sluyter: 209 00101 00201 (people in household).
1825 Broome Co., N.Y. State Census lists’ Walter Sluyter: 004, Chenango, N.Y.
1830 Choconut, Susquehanna, Pennsylvania Federal Census lists’ Walter Sluyter’s household: 2 males under 5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 30-40, 1 male 60-70, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 30-40, 1 female, 60-70. NOTE: Pennsylvania seems to be a stopping off place where sons, Isaiah and Wesley were born…and then on to Michigan.
1840 Fenton, Genesee Co., MI. Federal Census lists’ Walter Sluyter’s household: 1male under 5, 2 males 5-10, 2 males 10-15, 2 males 15-20, 1 male 40-50, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 40-50.
ISAIAH SLUYTER’S DOCKET BOOK: This docket book dated 1799 Tioga Co., New York measures 16”x7” and is in the possession of descending relative, Janice Elaine (Sluyter) Short born 1929. In this docket book are listed apparent names of the family: Isaiah Sluyter Justice of the Peace, Polly Sluyter, Samuel Sluyter, Walter Sluyter, Nancy Sluyter, Isaac Sluyter, Henry Sluyter & Phebe Sluyter, H. Sluyter. Other than business, this book contains blue prints of Henry Sluyter’s house costing $518.48. It also contains this writing: “Polly Sluyter” is mi name, English is mi nation, Chenango is mi dwelling, (?) Christ is mi salvation. The following prayer is recorded next to Polly Sluyter: Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. NOTE: Chenango is a County in N.Y. by Tioga Co., N.Y.
