I recently discovered that the individual I have been trying to locate for the last twenty years may have last lived and died in Chenango County. Mu husband's gggrandfather was born Charles Edward Grannis, but went by the name Edward C. Grannis. He was born in 1812 in CT. (parents unknown) and moved between New York and PA. in his early years. He married a Clarissa Sutliff (location & date unknown) Two known children were Lyman Grannis born about 1836/37 and James B. Grannis born in 1840.

A death notice on the Chenango County site (Preston township) states that he died March 5, 1875 and that he was 63 yrs. old. This ties in with his birth year of 1812. I could not find any mention of his wife, Clarissa. Edward served in the Civil War even though he was in his fifties (the 114'th Infantry/Invalid Corps). Edward lived in Oneida County prior to his mention in Chenango County in Oxford and Preston. I cannot connect him to the other Grannis in that area (Timothy and Cyrus) but his two sons that I listed were in the care of the Allen (Allyn) family in the 1850 census of Susquehanna County, PA. at the ages of 14 and 10. Can anyone enlighten me on further data about this Edward Grannis?
