One of a series on Rio Arriba Post Offices published in the Rio Grande Sun, Thursday July 29 1999, from "The History of Rio Arriba CountyPost Offices" by James W. White stated that
the community was named for Lindrith Cordell, son of the first Postmaster, Mrs. Fannie J. Hill. The Post office was opened in the family store in 1919.
