Greetings, Stephen W. Gilbert was associated with Gilbert & (Jesse T.)Collins Irrigated Pecos Valley Lands listed in the Business Directory of Artesia in 1912. I believe he was a cousin of my Gr. Grandmother Martha "Mattie" Gilbert (1858 Mo.-1917 Mo.) whose father was also Stephen W. Gilbert (1820 Virginia - 1877 Callaway Co. Missouri). Stephen W. Gilbert of Artesia most probably born in Missouri, his wife was Emma.
I have a letter of condolence dated 10 June 1911 from Stephen Gilbert to my Gr. Grandmother, her middle daughter Alma had died of pneumonia.

Also looking for (the family mystery that my grandmother never got over) Walter G. Morton (1887 Mo.- ?) my grandmothers brother, he left Missouri and went to Sweetwater,Texas(?)and/or New Mexico. He may have followed his cousin(?) out to Eddy County. The one clue I have is a WWI draft card from Eddy Co. N.M. with the name of Walter G. Morton.

Thank you and Good Hunting!
