I am interested in any information on the charcoal kilns built near 1900 on the Maxwell Land Grant land which I assume is near Maxwell, NM in Colfax County. Alvin Chamberlain Dake moved his operation from Dake, CO at that time because his supply of lumber was depleted and possibly because the Federal Government had sued him for cutting lumber that someone felt shouldn't have been cut. (Actually, a significant portion of that timber shouldn't have been cut.) So, as I'm just beginning my study in NM, I'd appreciate any help I could get.
