[] While Alice's death was not mentioned in the Raton Ranger, in July, 1897, I did find mention of a new railroad hospital in Las Vegas.
[] So, I had the library get another microfilm in on inter-library loan, and there in the 12 July 1897 issue the Daily Optic of (East) Las Vegas, San Miguel Co., New Mexico Territory was mention of the death of the wife of Wm.[sic] Allinger, of Raton. She'd died of pneumonia 4 days after the birth of her fourth child!
[] Hmm. Sounds like a doctor was involved or at least a cause of death determination made. By the way, The Daily Optic did mention that a Dr. Lucas (if I remember the name correctly) had just opened his new hospital.
[] Are any death or cemetery records known to be available from that time period in either of those areas - Raton or Las Vegas? My genealogical reference doesn't list death records being accumulated until 1916.
[] Just wondering. ---John
