The Nickles name in general is Scotch-Irish. By that I mean that the ancestors came from Ireland in about 1730-1800 and the came to Ireland from Scotland about 1600-1700 to work on the plantations in northern Ireland. The came from the Isle of Skye originally and were Norse. Their Norse name was Maik Neacail (Son of Neacail.) The Norse went all over europe and the Neacail clan was with them. That is why there are so many variations of the name and from so many countries.
