DESCENDANTS OF CONRAD NICHOLS 1770 SC P-19 DESCENDANTS OF JOEL LAFAYETTE NICHOLS JR., AND MARY FRANCES CARNES 91. ABBIE TULA NICHOLS Abbie Tula Nichols was the first child of Joel Lafayette Nichols Jr., and Mary Frances Carnes-Nichols. She was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, Febuary 05, 1878. Abbie married JAMES MANNING HOLLIS January 23, 1901. James was the son of Hillard Hollis and Carrie Green Bryan. James was born March 16, 1887 and died October 30, 1965. James and Abbie worked a farm north of Brantley, AL. Abbie's mother, Mary Frances Carnes-Nichols became a widow in 1912. She moved in with James and Abbie in 1924 and stayed there until her death in 1935. Abbie died July 12, 1957. James and Abbie are buried at the Brantley Cemetery in Brantley, AL., in Crenshaw Co., off US331. This couple had five children. 191. I. Robert Oliver Hollis 92. CLAUDIUS CLEO NICHOLS (Claude) Claudius Cleo Nichols, second child of Joel Lafayette Nichols and Mary Frances Carnes, was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, December 11, 1879. He married EMILY ANN HOLLIS January 15, 1903. She was the sister of James Manning Hollis. Emily was born Febuary 04, 1884 and died Febuary 03, 1943. 196. I. Katie Bell Nichols 93. OLIVER NEWTON NICHOLS (Oil) Oliver Newton Nichols, third child of Joel Lafayette Nichols Jr., and Mary Frances Carnes, was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, September 15, 1881. Oliver married two times. His first wife was EULA LEE JOHNSON. They were married December 25, 1904. Eula was born October 22, 1884 and died August 01, 1930. Oliver and Eula had ten children. Sometime after the death of Eula, Oliver married ENGRIE GODWIN, the daughter od Daniel Godwin (1866-1960) and Lady Elemore (1871-1948). Oliver died January 21, 1953. I do not know the date of death for his second wife or if they had any children. Oliver and Eula are buried at the Brantley Cemetery in Brantley, AL., Crenshaw County. their children are: 206. I. Fannie Jo Nichols 94. ALICE EUNICE NICHOLS Alice Eunice Nichols, fourth child of Joel Lafayette Nichols Jr., and Mary Frances Carnes, was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, May 03, 1883. She married JESSE JOHN SASSER November 24, 1901. Jesse was the brother of William Pleasant Sasser who married Susan Leslie Nichols (see # 89), a cousin of Alice. Jesse was born December 24, 1879 and died December 30, 1966. Alice died May 03, 1973. Jesse worked as a farmer near Brantley, Alabama, where he and Alice lived. They are buried in the Brantley Cemetery in Crenshaw County. This couple had five children. 216. I. Annie Mae Sasser 95. SUSAN AUGUSTER NICHOLS (Gussie) Susan Auguster Nichols was the fifth child of Joel Lafayette Nichols Jr., and Mary Frances Carnes. She was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, December 08, 1886. She married EDWARD BOZEMAN, a widower with five children. They had no children of their own. 96. CLERA CLARA NICHOLS (Que) Clera Clara Nichols, sixth child of Joel Lafayette Nichols and Mary Frances Carnes, was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, September 28, 1888. She married JAMES CLIFFORD COMPTON, January 25, 1908. James Clifford was the son of James Randolph Compton (1855-1901) and Sarah Frances Hill (1861-1934). James Clifford Compton was born December 20, 1887 and died May 11, 1966. He spent his adult life as a farmer and Clera, a farmer's wife. She died June 28, 1955. They are buried at the mount Ida Church Cemetery in the Spring Hill Community in Crenshaw County near Brantley, AL. They had nine children. 220. I. Virgie Theresa Compton 97. HENRY PEAVY NICHOLS (Fox) Henry Peavy Nichols, seventh child of Joel Lafayette Nichols and Mary Frances Carnes, was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, October 01, 1896. Henry married MATTIE SALOME PITTS, April 16, 1919. She was the daughter of Martin Pitts and Sarah Jane Russell. Mattie was born July 08, 1901 and died January 30, 1990, in Tacoma, Washington. Henry served with the American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I. After he returned to Alabama, he worked as a police officer in Montgomery, Alabama for many years. Henry died April 13, 1963. He and Mattie are buried at the Mount Ida Church Cemetery in Crenshaw County, Alabama, near Brantley. five children were born to their union. 228. I. Beauchamp Edison Nichols 98. BIRDIE ALDINE NICHOLS Birdie Aldine Nichols, eighth child of Joel Lafayette Nichols Jr., and Mary Frances Carnes, was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, 233. I. Katherine Bush 99. NEWTON GREASHAM NICHOLS (Gress) Newton Gresham Nichols was the nineth and last child of Joel Lafayette Nichols Jr., and Mary Frances Carnes. He was born in Crenshaw County, Alabama, September 09, 1906. Newton was married two times. His first wife, BONCILE SANDERS, was born April 09, 1910 and died July 21, 1972. They were married January 23, 1925. One child was born from this union. 234.
