Do you think William Durkee could have first been married to Libby Elliot? I noticed a William Durkee in Hardwick, Worcester Co, MA 1900 who is the correct age, born in NH and is shown as married 4 yrs. His wife is not with him on the census and he is a woolen mill worker. Remember the 1900 census of Lebanon, NH where Agnes & Vera are living with the father of Agnes and also in the home was the sister of Agnes, Libby L. Durkee- married 4 yrs- but no husband in the home. I know William did not list a previous marriage on any later census, but that doesn't mean he wasn't married before especially since he was so much older than Vera. I think you should look into this possibility. It's likely the town of Lebanon could have TWO marriage records for him. One in about 1896 and one about 1914. About the other family members, I cannot find John H. Durkee on the census after 1880. I found his marriage in 1891 Boston (to Mary/May Dempsey) and evidence that they had at least two children at this link: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nhcfrank/birth1893.htm but I can't seem to find out what became of him or his family. I did find Cecil (Durkee) stayed in Boston after her 1895 marriage to Thomas Foden. She disappears from the census between 1920-1930 so I suppose she died then. The census records I found suggest this couple had no children. |
