You might want to see the episode of the English 'Who Do You Think You Are?' which traced the father of actress Kim Cattrall. Her grandfather was a chap called Baugh, who emigrated to Australia with his 'second' family (not the most pleasant story). Your message reminded me of this, as Baugh is an unusual name and the circumstances seemed to fit.
