Hi Shirley,
It's great to hear from you. You would be a distant cousin, then.

I am at a complete brick wall concerning Riley and Pheby Bennett Ramsey as far as their parents etc.

I believe I found them in 1850 in North Carolina. He was called "Uriah", so I wonder if that was his given name. I also believe I found them in 1860 in Claiborn County, Tenn. He was listed as "Rial" The children's names all lined up and the dates.

My great grandmother was Livina "Viney" Ramsey who married Owen Wilson. I wonder if he was a brother to Beneger Wilson? Their daughter was Hannah Sallie Wilson, my grandmother. She married William "Will" Petrey. My father, Johnnie, was their son.

I also found an article in "The History of Kentucky" Pages 292-292 by William Elsey Connelly, Ellis Merton Coulder and Charles Kerr that mentioned Riley and Phoebe Ramsey. They were the grandparents of a Dr. Tilman Ramsey who lived in Pineville and was quite an affluent person there. He was the son of Martha and Livinia's brother William.

The article sort of glorifies them to be affuential people of the agricultural world, when actually they were probably very poor farmers. It says that they lived their whole lives in North Carolina but I know that isn't true because I found them living next door to my great grandparents, Livinia and Owen Wilson in Rockhold, KY in 1880. Your great grandmother, Martha, was living with them too.

To access this article just google in "The History of Kentucky" and the authors.. It is in digital form on the internet and you can read it. Pages 291-292.

I have the census reports that I mentioned above, and I will send them to you if you want them. Just let me know by email. mary.pike@insightbb.com

If you ever find out anything in addition to the above, please let me know.
