Something else of interest.... I found in "Yancey County North Carolina Marriages 1850-1920" The marriage of ELLIS MELTON: Ellis Melton, 21, to Elizabeth Mor (Moore?) 21 They were married on 1 June 1876, by Thurman Duncan, Witnessed by, CC Byrd, JM Byrd, AS Shelton Very interesting, since then in the 1880 census Ellis and 2 very young children are living with Ellis' parents. My guess is she probably died giving birth to the youngest child (Suda) who was born 1878. Or died shortly after. It was very strange for the FATHER to have such young children unless the mother died. Connie
