Greetings! I am writing to tell folks about a new book concerning Yancey County, North Carolina, history. In 2003, the Yancey History Association set out to produce a history of the house that serves as the location for the Museum of Yancey County History. The final product was released a couple of months ago. The ca.1840 McElroy House: A Glimpse of Yancey County, North Carolina’s History (Donning Publishers, 2004), is a book that documents the history of the 160-year-old McElroy House and the families that have owned the house, including the McElroys, Moores, and Rays. The book also describes the role that the house played in the April 1864 “battle of Burnsville.”

Copies of this new book can be purchased at the museum (828-682-3671), or in a number of shops in downtown Burnsville. If you would like to mail-order a copy of the book, please contact Michael C. Hardy at mchardy@michaelchardy.com
