Micheal,

I am a Blankenship researcher also. I have found some information on your John and Lovada Blankenship when trying to find my own John Blankenship in Western NC. I hope this helps.

According to the Yancey Co marriage records John Blankenship married Lovada Holcombe on Mar 15, 1859
Her full name is Matilda Lovada Holcombe.

Lavada is the daughter of Joseph and Emelia Holcombe found in the 1850 Yancey Co Census

HOLCOMBE, Joseph 36 W M Farmer
Elliberry 12 M
William 8 M
John G. 7 M
Obadiah 5 M
Emelia 33 F wife
Matilda L.11 F
Cynthia E 1 F

John Blankenship is the son of Pleasant and Elizabeth Blankenship found in 1850 census for Yancey Co

BLANKENSHIP, Pleasant 30 W M Farmer
John 8 M
James N 6 M
Elizabeth 33 F wife
Sarah 10 F
Dorothy 7
Catherine 3

I also find Matilda L. Blankenship in the 1880 Yancey Co census

1880 Yancey co Census Caney River twp. page 1 District 232 enumerator L.S.Warren

5/5 BLANKENSHIP, Matilda L. W F 33 Kp hse NC NC NC
Robert W. W M 15 son farmer NC NC NC
Sarah L. W F 12 dau NC
Margaret L. W F 9 dau NC
James M. W M 7 son NC
Samantha C W F 5 dau NC
Riley A W M 2 son NC
Lorenzo M. W M 19 son Farmer NC
Anna P. W F 18 dau-in-law

There is only two discrepancies here, the daughter-in-law's name of Anna, unless he married again and Lorenzo's age. According to the census he was born in 1861 not 1863.

I hope this helps in your search. If this is the John Blankenship you are looking for you will be able to easily trace your ancestor to the Blankenships of Virginia and to Ralph the first to land in America.

Good Luck.
