I don't have any Gill family information for the period of time that you mentioned and I'm certainly no expert on that family but one of the daughters in my Reeves (Reves) family of Wake County married into the Gill family in the early 1800's.
From my Reeves' family research, I found that the husband of our Mary Reves was John Gill, the son of Jesse Gill and Tabitha Pace. Jesse and Tabitha Gill had a large family of 11 children. Some of those children remained in Wake County while others moved west into Tennessee. I understand that Jesse Gill's will and estate were contested and there is a lot of information regarding his children and grandchildren in the Wake County Probate records.
This site has a lot of well researched information for Jesse Gill and his father, David Gill - http://sciway3.net/clark/gill/jessewakeconc.html.
You might try to follow the Gill family of Wake County's descendants into the 20th century in order to find your husband's ancestors.
