It just so happens that, through the wonderful work of Miles Philbeck in the Old Tryon Bulletin, you have your answer!
Bulletin of the Genealogical Society of Old Tryon County, Feb 2001, edited/compiled by Miles Philbeck: "Relationships Outside of Marriage: Rutherford County"
p 37 State vs Wm. Elliott Jr. #33 Summer 1844 Bastardy Polly Taylor. #34. Summer 1844 - Bastardy Polly Taylor. #16 Feb 1845 Dismissed. #17. Feb 1845 Continued. #13 Aug 1845 Plaintiff's receipt filed for her allowance.
The Old Tryon Bulletin, by the way, is one of the best "deals" going and is indispensable for people working on genealogy related to the large area of western North Carolina formerly covered by the long extinct Tryon County.
William Elliott Sr. is my ancestor through his daughter Rhoda, so this makes us at least somewhat connected. I unfortunately know next to nothing about him, but feel fairly sure that much of the information on the web about his ancestry is incorrect.
I'd be interested in receiving more information on your Taylor line, since there's some connection to my family in that as well.
