Alfred Ledbetter born 1859 to Allen A. Ledbetter and Sarah Hinson. Married Mary Elizabeth Howell, daughter of Ann Short Howell, on Dec 2 1877 and had 2 children: Joseph Abner and Minnie Araminta. Supposedly committed some horrific crime and was jailed. Wife Lizzie disowned him and went back to the name Howell and gave the children her maiden name. The marriage did occur as there is a marriage license on file in Anson County. He supposedly broke out of jail and was found drowned in the PeeDee River with the ball and chain still attached.
