Linda, I recently began to research the early Bullock family in Pitt Co, NC – believing them to be descended from the same Bullock line as mine out of old Surry Co, VA. My line is from Charles Bullock, born 25 Dec 1740, in old Surry & migrated to Bladen (now Robeson County) NC by 1770. I believe his older brother, John Bullock, born ca 1727, migrated to the Edgecombe/Pitt County NC area by the 1760’s.
It is very likely that some of the Pitt County Bullock’s migrated toward & into Alabama in the early 1800’s. I know some of my Robeson County line went into GA, AL & MS by the 1820’s. DNA research of Bullock families indicate there were likely 4 or 5 early “Bullock” families in the 1600/1700’s in VA/NC/MD/SC. Most all of their descendants migrated all across the south by the early 1800’s. Good old time genealogical bookwork research helps to differentiate the families – & current DNA analyses either confirms the paperwork or indicates which other Bullock lines belong to whom.
I have a publication, “Families of Bullock & Roebuck”, published by James Garland Bullock, Sr., in 1977. It describes many of the early Bullock families in Pitt/Edgecombe/Martin/Wilson Counties NC. If you can share your uncle’s Bullock lineage, I would be glad to check it against this book and my other Bullock family files.
I look forward to hearing more from you. Sincerely, Charles Bullock
