Linda-
My ggg-grandfather, Peter Madden, was born in Tazewell County, Virginia. It's generally believed that his father was George Madden, who supposedly dies about 1801. I've been told that this isn't the same George Madden who migrated to North Carolina. What bothers me about that theory is that George and Samuel Madden both appear on Russell County, Virgina tax lists in 1796,97 & 98. In 1799 George is the only one remaining and signs the petiton to form Tazewell County. In 1810, George and Samuel appear in North Carolina censuses, but not Virgina. My assumption was that they migrated to North Carolina from Virgina. I'm no longer certain that is true. But I do know that George's (from Virgina) sons Peter & George moved to southeastern Kentucky by the 1820's.
