Wondering if you have reached any conclusions or have any strong speculation of where your Elias Turner came from--any brothers or other family?
Some time back a Southerland descendant contacted me about William Turner who married Fanny Southerland and said he thought William and Fanny ended up in Tippah Co., MS and that she is Frances Turner on the 1850 census there, age 62 born in VA, living in the household of John C. Mellon age 41 born NC and his wife Rosanna Mellon, age 40 born NC. Some of her other children appear to be right there also. Rosanna is supposed to be the daughter of William and Fanny.
If that is correct, then it appears that they must have moved from the area of Orange Co., NC down to Lincoln Co., NC area. At least one of their purported children James Turner married Jane Mellon in Lincoln Co., NC on 1 Oct 1834.
James was listed as 40 born in SC.
The person contacting me said that the Mellon family lived on both sides of the NC/SC line in York Co., SC.
I'm interested in the Turners who lived in Orange County. I think at least some of them are descendants of Henry Turner who died in 1809 in Caswell Co., NC. Henry Turner is said to have come to that area of NC from Culpeper Co., VA ca 1777.
He was supposedly one of about 10 children and I'd love to be able to document his other siblings.
