Hi Clem. I have been reviewing some of your postings. I was not surprised to find that you have a Wilburn connection in your ancestrals lines. In fact, I rather expected this to be the case. Sorry that I cannot be of any concrete help. At best, I can give you my opinion which is...I believe that the very earliest Rose family that is posted on this Rose genforum are your direct ancestors. And probably mine also. I think it is very likely that somewhere in my ancestral lines are Rose ancestors. I do know that Rose and Wilburn families were nearest neighbors in at least four different locations c 1770 to 1870. There has to be a reason for this close proximity. During that era, nearest neighbors usually meant kinfolk or kin or kin. I know that there were Rose and Wilburn families (nearest neighhbors in Giles, VA 1810)...I suspect long before that time frame. Before Giles, VA, my Wilburns were in Orange Co NC near the Haw River...Rose families were also settled into that location. Later my Wilburn ancestors settled into Wilkes, and Ashe Co NC and from there were in Claiborne co TN c 1813. I know there were some Rose families also in Claiborne Co TN during that period. By 1830, some Wilburns were living in Maury Co TN...having relocated there from Johnson Co NC. (Not my direct ancestors) but kin of my direct line)... And lastly, my Wilburns lived next to Eliz Rose and her daughter in Crawford Co IN by 1870. And these Rose families appear to be kin to Alexander Rose and his family who also settled into Crawford Co (Leavensworth, Union twp, I believe.) Would have to look up the township for certainty. At any event, I believe these Rose families who lived near Wilburns all descend from the same Rose family. Cheers, Vikky |
