Mannings is the name of a Township where Spring Hope once was a part of, however, Spring Hope is now a Township on its own. Here is a link to a map on Wikipedia where you can see it's location and the fact that Spring Hope is now a very tiny section within Mannings:
I've done a lot of research on the Free People of Color and Slaves of certain NC Counties while in the pursuit of learning the origins of my own ancestors who lived in those Counties and whose surnames appear mostly in many of the records for Warren, Halifax, Granville, Franklin, Nash and Wake Counties. I try to research at least a little bit of the families of the spouses, and anything that I gather I keep a record of because quite often, I later find out it comes in handy, if not to me, but to some other researcher. It was in the process of researching one of my ancestors in slavery petitions that I first came across the story of Silvia Spears, and I was able to connect it more sometime later when I realized that this was the ancestor of Louisa Jane Spears who had married one of my ancestors.
Here is a link to the Nash Co. petitions I abstracted, one of which was where I first saw Silvia & Violet's connections:
This Nash County site, by the way, has a lot of good info you might want to look through that can help you learn more about the County.
Meanwhile, I'm emailing you separately the tombstone photo, as well as a copy of David Mills will.
