Does anyone know who Samuel Winstead, whose lands fell to the children of Joseph Winstead, was and has anyone looked at the original records cited below? Who was the “Samuel Winstead Piney Woods” in Nash County named for? We are descended from both Nancy Winstead Cockrell and Susannah Winstead Vick. Thank you for any help. Guy The children of Joseph Winstead (who died in or before Feb 1794 in Nash County, North Carolina) were heirs of one Samuel Winstead (deceased), recorded as: Nancy Cockrell widow of John Cockrell, 19 Nov 1825 (9); John Bone and wife Elizabeth Bone, 10 Feb 1826 (10) and 2 Mar 1826 (12); John Poland and wife Sally Poland, 2 Feb 1826 (11); Susan Vick, 12 Aug 1834 (13) (17); a John G. Winstead (14) was also an heir; it is possible an 1829 land sale involving Joseph Winstead, Elijah Winstead, Thomas Winstead, Sr., and wife Penny Winstead, Briant Winstead and wife Polly Winstead, Jeremiah Winstead and wife Nancy Winstead, Edwin Williford and wife Chaney Williford, and Harmon Williford and wife Charity Williford (all of Nash and Edgecombe Counties, all selling land jointly) was part of the same Samuel Winstead (deceased) land division (13) (17); Susannah Winstead Vick lived in the place “called the Samuel Winstead Piney Woods” adjacent to Eli Crumpler and Josiah Vick in Feb 1842 (8).
