From the book By Faith and Heritage Are We Joined - A compilation of Nash County Historical Notes:

Page 10: "One of these loose papers is the original petitions fo rthe division of Edgecombe County into two separate counties, one of which would become Nash County. This petition, dated November 17, 1777, was followed by 254 signatures. Nearly all of these names are easily recognizable as landowners in the agea at that time, except for three or four who may have been tradesmen."

Of the names listed I found: Bolan Beckworth, Amos Beckwith, and Thomas Beckwith.

Also, p. 53 lists Sion Beckwith as being a Justice of the Peace for Nash County in 1808.

Hope this information is helpful in your research.

You may want to look in Edgecombe County for further information of this family - since there were evidently present when Nash County was formed.
