Dr. David La Vere presents "A Tuscarora War Trio: Core Tom, Captain Brice, and the Baron"
Dr. David La Vere, noted author of several Native American books and Professor of History at UNC-Wilmington, will present "A Tuscarora War Trio: Core Tom, Captain Brice, and the Baron" about the war that began in September 1711 in Eastern North Carolina between the Tuscarora Indians and the Colonial Settlers. In addition, a moment of silence and reflection will be observed in memory of those known and unknown whose lives were affected during the war. The event is Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 1pm in the Cullman Performance Hall at the new North Carolina History Center, 529 South Front Street, New Bern. The event is hosted by The Family History Society of Eastern North Carolina.
Dr. La Vere is currently working on a seventh book, tentatively titled "A Country Wild and Imperfect: Life and Death in North Carolina’s Tuscarora War, 1711-1715." He often lectures around the state, giving talks about the history of North Carolina Indians. He was invited to attend the March 2006 Oxford Round Table at Oxford University, England to discuss diversity in society.
